Player Handbook questions and clarifications

Postby greywolfeyes » Mon Aug 27, 2012 5:59 pm

Greetings everyone. The Player Handbook just released on August 24th is wonderful. As I read through it, certain questions come up. Hopefully someone can answer.

1) In regards to Death Mages, on page 127 concerning power addition - it points out that the TN check is 10+ 1/2 the overall amount of CE harvested. If this is the case, then the average amount of CE from a person is 100CE(if they pull from the death of a person in one round). This then means that the TN is 10+50. Only way to pass is to roll a natural 20. Pretty much means that 19 people/creatures would need to die before mage would gain control again. Statically speaking that is. I don't believe this was the intended result of the game. My guess, TN should be 10 +1/2 of Con of sacrifice.

2) Second question deals with sources of energy of Sereph touched, Kylen, and powers of light. Is the energy source Divine Source (greater) and Divine Source(lesser) different in regards to energy being added to an amulet. If a Kylen or divine touched charged an amulet from the Divine Source(lesser), then since the energy is divine in nature, do they get the benifit and problems of energy as listed on page 128 for Sereph or Cherubs. Or is this issue only is present with sources from Divine Source(greater). - You could even take this further and if Divine soure greater provides 5 extra additions to conjures using energy, divine source lesser provides 3 and elemental energy 0 additions.

I look forward to clarification.

Hey, I haven't forgotten your questions. I don't have a response yet, but hope to have one in the next few days. Thanks for your patience!

Well, technically the TN would only be 50, not 10+50, but
that doesn't make much difference.

Just like real world serial killers, lots of death mages
start of on little animals, not humans. With animals you
only draw 5 CE per point of Con, so the TN is 25 -- plus
little animals like housecats and squirrels have a lower
Con, so a lower TN. A death mage can go for years killing
animals without getting in trouble.

When the death mage takes his first sentient mortal life,
he usually gets power addicted on that first try, and is
usually killed by a coalition of every Light-loving mortal
around him within minutes or days.

Yes, if a kylen or seraph-touched channels divine CE into
an amulet, the amulet gains all the benefits listed for
divine or seraphic energy. The user of the *amulet* doesn't
have any problems with it, but the person who did the
channelling has to deal with any mage heat or other
complications that result.

Two notes: Divine Source (greater) isn't available to PCs,
and while other seraphic amulets have seraphic CE with the
bonuses in them, seraphic visas don't get the 5 extra
options, etc.
