Nod and move off to collect the others, leaving the two on the stairs alone.

Except for the two guarding the stairs, it takes you about 5 minutes to gather the team and take them back to where you were, by the wood crates.

[Considering the other players don't want to seem interested in their own searches ...]

Most everyone else reports nothing out of the ordinary, although there was a faint, but odd blue light coming from a deeper side tunnel, but you were all recalled before it could be investigated.

Chandra nods. "From my searches it's clear that they were looking for something and I mean an ancient site from I don't know when. It's possible this blue light is related to what they were looking for." He looks at the captain. "With your permission, I'll go investigate this blue light whilst the others pack up the equipment. I'll squark the radio twice if I think there's anything too it."

Croner replies "we're not splitting the team further. We'll all go have a look, as it may be a way out of here without sneaking past an entire CoR battalion."

"It seems we're fated to recon the camp after all" says Croner. "Okay, we need to find out which particular Army this is and see if we can catch the lingo. If someone here speaks the required tongue, they'll go topside and see what they can learn. I'll also want to set up an overwatch position beyond the perimeter. That way the scout will have help if the shit hits the fan."

"I'd like to go topside, all this creeping around underground is beginning to affect me. However unless they are speaking hindi I'm not your scout, but I can act as overwatch."

Heya... I'm still here but having trouble mustering a lot of enthusiasm for the plot - it seems to be taking forever to get anywhere. I don't know that this style of game works very well in a PBP game.

Well, it's about to dive into the action but it's basically been just myself and one or two other people posting for quite some time. I may just kill off the game and try something else in another system if people don't have interest in it anymore.

I find a big problem has been me having to NPC the team leader since that player dropped out, because most of the decision making for the team ends up in the GM's hands.

Trust me I know what it is like to have the leader in the hands of the GM. He needs to make the decisions, but you don't want it to seem like he knows what's going on. Even though you do and the PC's know it as well...

I'd have Chandra take on more of a leadership role but the captain got snarky the last time I made a decision without him.

Plus there are times, like with the exploration of the tunnels, where a summary of what was found would have sufficed rather than the drawn out process it was. And I'm only trying to be helpful here.

Pacing

Postby Jack Grey » Mon Jun 13, 2011 12:41 pm

I agree - also not trying to be snarky, but long exploratory plots do not translate well to a PBP format, in my opinion. Better to post a summary paragraph, and move from eventful thing to eventful thing. And, for the record, long sections where we have to maintain silence is a PBP killer, since PBP is a highly conversational medium.

That 2 people for, but everyone else is either keeping quiet or bailing. I think part of what's dragging it on is I'm having to force the story along due to so few players speaking up, so I think I'm going to just call it, Jim.

As for the story, here's what I had in mind:

Basically, you guys stumbled across an ancient Atlantean outpost and a transport system teleported you to Meggido in Israel, where a second site was being excavated by a CoR task force.

Why?

It seems humanity associated the location with Armageddon because the Atlanteans had foreseen what would happen and had put a great warrior in stasis there in preparation for such a day (a legend civilizations later evolved into the story of the return of Jesus.) You guys would have woken him and been tasked with getting him and the stasis system's Atlantean power source to Britain safely.

I too appreciate your hard work, it was a great game while it lasted. Shame I didn't get to 500 posts - I was actually looking forward getting the next letter colored in.

I still need to run an online game to get my gaming fix. I'm just pondering the system I want to run.

Hi, guys,

First, let me apologize for my disappearing act. I went on a trip at the end of April and only returned one month later (I thought I had left a notice at the absences thread, but I didn't). However, life became hectic from that point on and I let my attendance slide.

I agree with Jack's and vidar's assessment of the game. Plus, I realized I have a hard time following PBP games that are not held on RPGnet (which I go to frequently) or Rpol.net, where most of the PBPs I play in or run are hosted. I've grown usually with their systems, especially the latter. I'd suggest checking out Rpol for future online gaming needs.

Anyway, I was enjoying the story, despite my less than frequent appearances. And I would also like to thank Steve on coming up with this game.

Tchau!
