Randy throw a curious and cold look to Jack.

He seems to listen some invisible power and said with a curious bass tone voice and cold... inhuman eyes "YOU SHOULD NOT SPEAK LIGHTLY ABOUT THE POWER OF THE WORD"

Then his eyes regain some humanity and look curiously around him like he was surprised by something.

Looking everyone in the room and said "Do I missed something ?"

He take a cigarette and lights it.

Jack has a twinkle in his eyes, seeming to find something inordinately amusing, and says, "Yes, indeed ya did. Apparently you hear voices, and one of them just told me I shouldn't speak lightly about the 'Power of the Word.'"

As the amusement fades, Jack continues, mildly, "And I never do."

Jack shakes his head, his book closed now. "No, I saw it. And I stand by what I have said. It's clear the padre thinks differently; it matters not. I have described to you some of my capabilities that may affect how the mission proceeds, and now I shall leave the tactical planning to those who are qualified."

Assuming the "holier-than-thou" portion of the discussion is over for the moment, Jack will continue reading until he is needed.

[Okay, so I think you guys should outline your plan and then you'll get dropped off. I'm still pressing the guys who haven't posted in a while to get off their butts, but everyone else should just proceed without them and I'll NPC them until they show up.]

The plan

Postby vidar » Sat Jul 26, 2008 6:50 am

"Ok here's how I see the plan. We each get buddies, we can swap out buddies everyday if you wish so you don't get bored with the conversation. It's your job to make sure your buddy is ok, that means not leaving them alone and informing others if you need to go anywhere out of the ordinary. It also means you check them whenever we rest for hypothermia and frostbite. And if you don't feel right you let somebody know - we don't need that kind of heroics, okay. Also you're going to eat more than usual due to the cold so you make sure you keep up your food and water intake ok!"

"When we get close we go with the scout and sniper scouting ahead, the explosives guy and I in the rear and the rest in a group in the middle. We keep to just within sight of each other or out to a klick if necessary. In other words we let the scouts do their job. We also maintain radio silence, unless it all goes pear shaped in which case feel free to say whatever you like on the radio. Our scouts will scout ahead whilst the rest catch up to them and conceal themselves in some cover and importantly out of sight of the encampment. We regroup when the scouts are finished and then we will decide how to proceed from there."

"Now I hope to do this as quietly and cleanly as possible. But if it proves necessary, and the captain or I will make that call, then we leave no survivors. Anyone have any changes?"

"One last thing, you follow the orders of the captain first and myself second. No exceptions, we tell you to bug out you leave. We tell you to shoot somebody you shoot. Noncoms are, obviously, exempt from that part. If you don't think you can do that, say so now and you can stay on the sub."

Lieutenant Croner [I'm NPC'ing him until a new player comes along] speaks up.

"Chandra's plan is sound until we see what the target site is like. Aside from the cold weather survival and comms gear we've all kitted, we'll also each be taking a pair of IR goggles and an IR transmitter. We'll be inserting in the dark and, combined with the lack of detail in the snow, it will be easy to lose our bearings and each other. That's why I want IR flashes on the transmitter at intervals of 10 minutes so we can check relative positions."

He then hands the goggles to those of you without IR gear already.

"The captain has informed me the boat will be hitting the surface in 20 mikes. The ice shelf is somewhat frozen over, but soft enough for us to paddle our RIB through to the shore. Total light and sound discipline unless reporting or queried, gentlemen. We're also going in with weapons on hold until my go."

He looks around the table, looking each of you in the eye.

"This is what we trained for. This is why we were brought together. We've had our differences but let's show the brass they haven't made a mistake with us. So, if there are no further questions let's keep it together, kit up, and go solve a mystery."

[Nobody seems to have anything to say so we'll move on]

The sub's captain informs you that you're rising and has you form up, in full kit, around the forward latter to the main deck's hatch. With a slight bob and sway you feel the submarine shift and assume that it's broke the water's surface and come to an even rest. The deck still moves a bit under your feet, and you hear crew voices down the thin hall, speaking of high winds and choppy waters. You'll definitely have to be careful once your RIB is inflated so as to not fall into the water. Even with all your arctic survival clothing on, falling in the water would soak you through pretty fast, and that's if your gear didn't pull you under.

Finally, a seaman pushes through you and climbs up the ladder, spinning the lock and pushing up the hatch. He comes back down and walks away without a word. Clearly the crew is still under orders not to talk to you.

The captain gives you a nod and a salute before wishing you well.

Sergio salutes the captain and says "Be seeing you, sir", turning the military salute into an OK sign that he taps against his brow. With a smile, the Sniper climbs up the ladder.

You all haul the boat up to the sub's soaked foredeck where you inflate it with an air compression line leading below decks. It's a very dark, moonless night and you can see the distant shore far across the sea of thin ice you'll have to break ahead of your progress in the RIB.

Lieutenant Croner, as the sailor in the group (not to mention the team leader) is your best bet for placing everyone where they're best able in the RIB and to keep you all from tipping over as you paddle ashore.

As Chandra gets in he comments "You know boats always seemed so," he looks down at the dark water, "unsafe. My helo's are much safer!!"

Jack sits where Croner points, gazing out at the horizon. He seems a little out of place, decked out in cold weather gear, goggles, and weapons, an uncomfortable blending of the old and the new. But this is war, and Jack is here, and this is what is needed. He sits quietly, awaiting the next command.

You paddle your rib to shore without much incident, just a few close calls while using paddles to smash through especially thick ice. Now that you're ashore all you can see is an expanse of white before you. You'll need to use your GPS compass to track your way to the site.

The Approach

Postby Jack Grey » Mon Aug 04, 2008 10:14 pm

Jack inhales deeply, a wide smile gracing his weathered face, and he says, softly, "I was a fisherman for for many years - grew up in Maine, I did, and learned to fish from my father and grandfather, and I'll tell you true, there's nothing like the smell of the sea. Of course," looking down at the rubber boat, "I'm used to wooden boats and strong, hemp rope, but times change, I suppose."

"You're telling me. I'm used to navigating using the landscape but now I have to get to used this." Holding up his GPS compass. "Hope it doesn't breakdown." He takes a few breaths, closes his eyes for a moment and then looks a little sad briefly. Then he gets down to the business of checking people's gear and organising them into their teams for the day. He makes a point of checking the weapons of the civilians too. He corrects any mistakes he finds, as well as pointing them out to the person. When he's done he turns to the captain. "Ready sir!"

Chandra checks over your gear again, nods approvingly then points you in the direction of the sniper. "Your both on point today. Thought the reverend wanted to go with you today but he changed his mind." He looks at everybody. "Remember you go where your buddy goes and when we stop you check your buddy for frostbite and hypothermia. And no being a stupid idiot, if you don't feel ok you tell somebody!!"

Croner crouches and looks about, then back at his team, "Alright people, let's pair up."

He mentally remembers their specialties. A nod, "Grey, you're with O'Rourke, you two are the medics on this job. Sparks, you're with Keane, both of you take point and scout the best entry points. Studder, you and Chandra get togethr, you're our vehicle acquisitions team."

Turning to Alexander, "Fletcher, you're with me, I'll need info on any of the stranger stuff that may happen."

"We good? Let's go."

Ahead of you is a stony beach that turns into a wide expanse of snow and ice, the rough winds whirling both up into cutting blasts and the moon creating a pale green reflection upon the land that causes the land to seemingly glow faintly. Your lungs labor against both the cold and dryness in the air. Roughly fifty meters ahead, past the beach, the land rises into a series of wind-shaped, rounded hills and buttes.

He looks to the moon and said in a mourne voice

"Do you sometime dance wih the devil under a ghostly moon ?"

After a pause he look his comrads :
