How Long to keep the game "On Hold"?

When the game's progress is put "on hold" while awaiting a poster's response (see the "How We Play" thread for clarification of this) we will only do so for a limited time period before the remaining characters' actions are NPC'd so that the game can move on. So, we need to decide what is a good timeframe for this "on hold" period.

I voted for 48 hours because of weekends. Plus, my writing has a way of distracting me from remembering to keep up with such things.

I myself am largely unavailable over weekends, so I'll probably consider weekends to be exempt anyway, with Monday evening being the time people should have responded to Friday or weekend posts by.
