Observations on Lakshman Chandra

Some things you already know about Lt Chandra are his inapproriate sense of humor and his seeming lack of knowledge about what's really going on.
As you get to know him you realise that he likes to have fun, even if it's at anothers expense - though he never treats the chaplain with anything other than a deep respect. Also he reads, a lot. It seems whenever you see him he has a book or file in his hands and always on the same topic - monsters.
Two other things strike you as odd. One he visits the chapel at least once a day. And sometimes chanting can be heard from his room - none of it in english. The second is that when distracted, say by reading a file, he has a habit of playing with a gold ring threaded through a gold necklace he wears - the ring looks like a wedding band.
