"That's not you only problem -- how many helos do you think you'll fly in this mission?" Sergio asks with a grin.

"But then how would we find out who the fooze ball champion is? It was between me and the sniper."

"Oh, please! It's totally me, man! I'm a sniper, for crying out loud." the corporal adds, pointing both his thumbs towards himself. Then, turning to the colonel, he asks: "Who's team leader, sir?"

He groans. "I know, don't remind me. My only hope is there's a helo ride somewhere in this mission."

"Oh, please! It's totally me, man! I'm a sniper, for crying out loud." the corporal adds, pointing both his thumbs towards himself.

Chandra snorts and rolls his eyes. "No way! My reflexes have been honed by years of flying a helo!"

The colonel goes on.

"Okay, since there are no further questions it's time to get you all geared up. You'll be able to draw from your standard kits and will be kitted with your arctic survival gear, but if you want anything special you'd better go see the quartermaster and requisition it ASAP. Your plane to Pearl goes wheels up at 10:00, so you'd all better move on the bounce."

Addotional equipment

Postby vidar » Wed Jul 09, 2008 6:40 am

I'd like to get another 2 offensive grenades and another defensive one. How many AT-4's do I get as a standard? One or more?

Go ahead with the grenades. This is an AT-4, so you can see why you only carry one.Image[/img]

Alex will put in for some arcane supplies. I assume he knows who to ask. He needs about a pound of salt, at least a half dozen small samples of black powder, more if the necessary quantity for one use is light enough to pose no difficulty, and if possible one or two packets of powdered human bone. He'll also be taking along his personal ritual tools and crystal.

Night Gear

Steve, I assumed that since we will be in the '6 months of night' period, low-light gear would be standard issue for most of us?

[True, but a) that's light enhancement/starlight, not thermal, and b) you're going to be issued goggles and he wants a gunscope. Also, keep in mind that winter in Antarctica isn't until June so (this being May), the nights are starting to appear but it isn't quiet at the "long night" stage yet.]

[Okay, so you are all equipped with night-vision goggles, arctic survival gear, and the extras some of you have requested. On to the adventure!]

A Hercules flies you all out to Pearl Harbor at the designated time. As the plane lands, you look out and see the strip you are landing on is being cleared to some distance by what looks like MPs in humvees. It looks like Section 51 wants to make sure even your own troops don't get a good look at you or what you're doing, which is why you are all handed thin bellaclava to wear between the plane's ramp and the waiting black SUVs with heavily tinted windows and black-suited handlers.

From there the SUVs take you in total silence to the harbor, where you are loaded into a Coast Guard cutter that then ferries you out to a submarine surfaced several hundred yards offshore. All the while, your handlers ensure the boat's crew keeps its distance from you and your gear. Once off-loaded to the sub, you are taken down and escorted by a crewman to the captain's quarters. The crewman gives the simple wooden door a soft knock and then leaves you in the narrow passageway.

Chandra looks over at Sergio. "Ten bucks says the captain isn't pleased we're on board." Looks at Jack. "Almost forgot to tell you I'm a Hindu."

Jack grins, and replies, obviously tongue in cheek, "All roads lead to the same place. And we who have glimpsed the truth feel love in our hearts for all men, even heretics. So cheer up!"

The door opens and a tall, lean naval officer with captain's bars on his lapels stands inside. He invites you all in and then takes a seat beside a small desk against the far wall. Although the cabin is probably the largest living space in the entire submarine, it is still incredibly small and economical in its functionality. With all nine of you in the room it is practically claustrophobic.

"Welcome aboard" the captain says simply as he awaits your salutes. "I've been ordered to take you well south at best possible speed. That will mean a few days." At this point his face darkens and he scans you all with serious eyes. "I've also been ordered to sequester you alone and keep you away from the crew. I have no idea who you are or what you're going to do, and I don't like it. I don't enjoy taking my boat or my people into harm's way without knowing the reason, but orders are orders. I apologize for the cramped conditions, but keeping you away from everyone else places limitations on us all--please follow the ensign to the area you've been assigned. A guard will be posted at all times to ensure your privacy."

At that the captain dismisses you and an ensign arrives to lead you towards the bow.
