Okay, is nobody else going to declare any preparations before moving up?

Preparations

Postby Jack Grey » Tue Nov 18, 2008 12:19 pm

[OOC - my stuff does not require preparation, and since I've been directed to hang back, I'm good. I will, however, make sure I keep the sniper in visual contact. Mostly, I'm posting this so you'll know I'm following along and paying attention. :-)]

[Okay, so I need to know how the scout team is planning to move up and where they plan on positioning themselves.]

If positioning allows, Alexander will attempt to render a believable illusion of a low, dense spray of snow along the enemy side of the group's line of advance, to act as a low-profile smoke screen. I can't tell how much essence that would cost, let me know if it'll leave me comatose.

Let's see now, my preparations are silencing my gun. Anything else that I missed? Otherwise I'm good.

The frontage between the two points where you lose track of the patrolling sentries behind what you assume are snow-covered buildings is roughly sixty feet. How many cubic feet do you want the illusion to be and how do you want it configured?

If our intended path is of similar length to the frontage, I'll run the illusion along the edge of the area the group will move through, about one foot tall and 6 inches off the ground. 58 feet long and 6 inches thick if I can shape it that way, 29 feet long and one thick in the middle of the line if I can't.

If we're going much farther, I'll cover about half the frontage, on whichever side the wind is blowing from, with a 1x1x29 foot obstruction close to the apparent building line, at a height to block as much as possible of the sentries line of sight to where we'll be.

Either way, blending into prevailing weather at the edges as much as possible to make it believable. At 29 essence, it'll take some time to cast.

Everyone except the scout and sniper, who have already moved off, notice the Fletcher isn't moving forward, but has instead stopped and is making unusual gestures towards the facility ahead, all the while mumbling something unintelligible.

[Those of you with metaphysics (you know how you are) see an increasingly bright-but-soft glow begin to appear around him.]

Moments pass until he stops. Following his gaze you see the snow has kicked up into a thicker line of dizzying motion in the distance along the frontage you'll be moving towards.

"In that case you'd better save it for when we're 5 minutes out." He looks around and looks back at Alex. "Whatever it is you did that is. And don't worry I'll let you know about when that is."

So, while the sniper team gets into position relatively quickly and has eyes on the patrolling enemy for quite a while, it takes the rest of you nearly two hours to belly crawl through the snow to a point where you estimate yourselves to be about 5 minutes away from being in a position to move and hide behind any of the snow-packed buildings or large snow drifts.

With a minimum of movement, Chandra checks that everybody is where they're supposed to be. Then uses hand signals to indicate everybody now needs to keep a good eye out and to be very careful. Then he looks at Alex and nods indicating he should go ahead.

Alexander begins his gesturing and muttering routine again.

Recasting the spell just as before, but maybe this time it's somewhere near useful.

okay, so the line of illusionary snow is back up again. You hope that it provides a bit more cover as you move up into final striking position.

Send some clicks over the radio to let the sniper and scout know we are almost in position then wait for the first guards to start falling. Scanning the area for suitable cover and any extra surprises.

From the main group's vantage point you can see one guard moving from the west (your left) to the east (your right) between what you can now see are two snow-covered storage sheds. Snow piled between the main building (which is itself largely covered in snow) and the shed to the left will give the guard cover in about 30 seconds at its current rate.

This guard is not visible to the scout and sniper, although they can see two guards standing side by side, talking to the main building's east, and another guard just moved out of sight behind the building.

Each of the guards is wearing heavy winter gear and armed with cold weather-adapted assault rifles.

Aim at the guard we can see but the sniper and scout can't and ask the captain. "Do we take down this guard now or wait for the sniper to take down the others?"

Sorry. I went on an unplanned vacation trip and forgot to tell you guys. Since the CO told us to take care of any guards without alerting the others, I'm not going for the two talking to each other, but if we cannot see the guy the main group spotted, that leaves only the other soldier. Can he be killed without alerting the other three?

BTW, a map would be nice. I'm confused about the scene. Nothing fancy, just something to help me establish where exactly are the buildings and the soldiers.

Sergio waits for one of the guards to be alone, all the while aiming at them.

The southern-most guard, walking east past the illusion, is currently the closest to being alone you can see from your position, crawling west around the snow-covered shed.

Continue to aim at the souhernmost guard, until he moves away into cover anyway. If he's taken down by the sniper move on. If not and the captain ok's the shot take him down,

Randy is keeping quiet, covering the sniper from backward intrusion. He looks behind his fellowes, seeking any sign of unnatural activities.
