Croner nods. "Let's get it done."

[Anyone doing anything as Sparks works?]

Jack

OOC: Jack is as close to Sparks as possible, while maintaining his line of site. Basically, Jack does not know what might come out of the entrance being formed, whether poison gas, evil energy, or critters, and he cannot put himself between the threat and Sparks if he is too far away.

Sérgio remains guarding the entrance.

Hi, guys. Sorry -- again -- for my disappearance act. If you would still have me, I'll jump n, but I might need a brief summary of what happened between the ice tunnel and the jelly portal.

I'll try to be brief, not sure what you remember about the ice tunnel so I'll start from the start. Split into three groups, one for each branching tunnel. Two dead ends one not, that one led to a bridge and some weird worm thing with a human face. Killed it, Jack put a grenade in it. Continued on, found lights. Men came out, killed them. Lights at the end of the tunnel, diggers and zombie things who shoot at us. Killed them (again in some cases). Restore power, find what they were searching for. A pillar rising and falling. Sparks touches pillar causing a reaction. When safe to do so we approach. Sparks touches it again, attached to a rope, and disappears. Chandra follows then all the rest eventually. Portal is one way and this appears to be the way forward. At T intersection, bottom of T is portal in, right end is dead end and left is a bricked up wall.

Simply keeping a wary eye on the hole, and the wall in general, watching for anything coming from the other side.

Sérgio follows the rest of the group. In his mind, he wonders at the level of weirdness of this mission. "Are we still in our world?" he asks no one specifically

Sparks spends about 5 minutes inspecting the wall and "doing his thing" before returning, detonator in hand.

"It's not going to take much to bring this down. Just a few blasting caps in the right spots should collapse it inwards without bringing it down."

He grins. "Anyone got anything to say before I light the candle on this cake?'

"Sparks was muttering something about 'he stands outside of time and space' earlier. So no probably not. But, you know, just so it's not all good news - think of all the frequent flyer points we're missing out on!"

No probs. Though I did forget about the bit with 'he stands outside of space and time.'

Sparks looks around to make sure nobody has anything else to say or do before he blows the wall.

Sparks looks to Croner, who gives him a shallow nod in reply. Sparks then says "fire in the hole, fire in the hole. In 5, 4, 3 ..." and then begins counting down silently. You see him press against the wall, hugging one arm to his body while closing his eyes, looking away from the wall to be blown, and opening his mouth.

Jack likewise presses himself against the wall, averting his eyes, but trying to maintain a visual on Sparks. He is not overly worried about the blast, only in ensuring the safety of his teammates.

Prepare for the explosion by copying Sparks' actions but I want to be able to have the gun ready and Chandra capable of shooting it as quickly as possible after the explosion.

Sérgio takes the same precautions and waits for the blast.

Should we cover our ears too or would that just make it worse on our eardrums?

Kind of like you notice Sparks is wearing.]

[sorry for the prolonged quiet. I've been laying out DOOM and doing last minute packing for this weekend's move]

With one last look at you all to see if anyone will give him reason to stop, Sparks pushes the detonator.

There is a soft "THWUMP" followed by a shake and a wall of air coming down the passage. When you open your eyes following the blast, you can see the dust drifting down from the ceiling. You can see there is a neat hole where he blew out the mortar between the stones. You can also feel the air has become somewhat warmer, but also certainly fresher.

Chandra moves through the hole and stops, scanning for trouble. He moves to one side to allow others to pass through as well. Assuming nothing leaps out at him he'll scout ahead until the next intersection or doorway, etc.

As you move up to the hole you can see dirt settling on that side as well. You also see what looks like stone walls that have been dug out of the earth to the sides and above, as though long buried. There are excavation lights tied to generators all over the place, although none are currently on. There are no people in sight and it's very dark, with only a faint bit of light coming from the far end of the excavation, to the distant right.

Still have the night vision on right? Otherwise I'll just put it on again.

Continue to move ahead, looking for side passages and the like. I'll stop if I find one otherwise move toward the light.

You see several side passages but because the light source is so dim, and limited to coming from one direction in the distance, you can't see far down any of them to discern how far they've been excavated.

Crack a glow stick (whatever they're called - mental blank) and throw one down each side passage that I come across. If it continues past the range of a glow stick I'll stop, signal what I've found and wait for the Captain to give orders.

[I'll borrow some from the others if I run out]

Jack will follow Chandra, having excellent night vision (undoubtedly from a long history of eating plenty of carrots), and will look to see if he can discern anything untoward.

OOC: Jack will use his special vision.

Croner pokes his head out after you three, sees the light and the glow sticks, and motions the rest through to set up a perimeter. The glow sticks don't reveal much, except you are obviously underground in some sort of cave. Based on the tools, lights, and gennies, it seems to be another excavation. It's also much warmer, as you all begin to sweat in your cold weather gear.

Jack will slip out of his cold weather gear and stow it in his backpack, and then advance further up into the new area, alert for any movement.

Chandra points to the gennies. "You want them on? We'd see better but it'll also give away we're here. I can also scout ahead with Jack unless you need me for something in particular." He'll also take off his cold weather gear, saying to the group. "Everybody remember to put the cold weather gear back on before we leave."

Croner indicates he doesn't want the gennies on--they'll make noise as well as light you all up for anyone to see. He also nods that Sergio should backup Sparks on point. He ends by telling everyone to go to hand signals and to police up anything loose that will make noise. He then motions everyone to move quietly along the wall towards the existing light.

Chandra signals ok. Checks his gear for anything that might make a noise, once that is fixed he'll look to see how the others are doing. He'll help anybody who's having trouble policing their stuff and give everybody a final check. Even Croner, in case he missed anything and then signal Croner to check him. Once done and satisfied with that he'll signal ok to Croner. Then signal Sergio and Sparks to proceed and move to be in the second rank, the one just behind the scouts.
