Misfit Studios RPG Blog ContributorsCalling All RPG Blog Contributors!

It ain’t easy running this thing, which is how it previously slid by the wayside. The choice between putting time into the blog for promotional purposes versus spending that time on outputting product is a difficult one. However, I can’t deny that a blog is useful for me as a publisher and for you, the audience. So, what can be done about it?

What Types of Content are You Looking For?

Simply put, I’m looking for blog contributors who want to post here on a one-off, semi-regular, or regular basis. I’m looking for things like:

  • Product reviews (and I’m willing to hand over Misfit Studios PDFs for this)
  • Product release announcements
  • Content samples/previews
  • Freebies/product add-ons
  • Gaming news
  • Original creations/rules/etc.
  • Gaming opinions
  • Stories about gaming group experiences (indeed, it would be great to get an on-going serial going from a great storyteller with a regular group)
  • Fiction (graphic or written)
  • Game pro notes, opinions, suggestions, etc. re: game design, publication, marketing, and so on
  • … and any other ideas you want to pitch.

Everything will be posted according to a schedule with slots filling by availability. I will work with blog contributors to time article releases with product releases and the like when the opportunity to do so arises.

What’s in it for Blog Contributors?

There’s no pay involved, so all I can offer is a chance to get the blog contributors’ voices in front of the audience I’m going to be building.

If you are a writer or publisher, you can talk about your products in a way similar to how you can see Misfit Studios showcases its own. This provides a chance to get in front of a wider audience and social media channels beyond your own. (And yes, I know the whole “you can’t pay bills with exposure dollars” line of thinking, and largely subscribe to it myself. I am, however, trying to turn the blog into a powerful content marketing tool, so I expect actual marketing value to be delivered to blog contributors.)

If you are not a pro but think you have something to pitch, send me an email and let me know! Chances are, your article will have value beyond one that comes with a price tag attached.

What’s in it for Misfit Studios?

Additional content provided by volunteer blog contributors frees up my time to work on product. I’ll still be editing and preparing the blog posts, so blog contributors won’t have to worry about learning my CMS quirks and the like, but even that is a smaller time investment. It also helps expand the blog’s overall audience, draw more traffic to the Misfit Studios website at large. Plus, I will be adding calls to action for Misfit Studios to posts where doing so won’t overshadow the content.

What Sort of Guidelines Would There Be?

The specifics of what I’m looking for is pretty simple once you pitch me an idea for what you’d like to do as one of the blog contributors:

  • The article must be unique and unpublished elsewhere to cut down on duplicate content (no more than 20% duplicate.) The exception to this is product previews where content from within a product is displayed.
  • It must be topical. I’m not looking to become someplace where everyone can off-load sales content. There are already plenty of places for that. If you want to use the blog to help sell product, wrap a topic around it (e.g., talk about a specific gaming problem people encounter and how your product helps deal with it.)
  • Minimum 500 words. 1,000 or more words is better, as such bloggers tend to be more heavily read and more engaging.
  • Create a user account with a picture (or company logo or the like.) I want readers to see real people are involved and it’s not just a bunch of fake accounts or the like. Plus, I want to provide blog contributors with the recognition they deserve.
  • Any images appropriate to accompany your content (e.g., product covers.)
  • Any links you want included (within reason; don’t plan on turning your article into a link farm.)

Let me know if you have any questions or are interested and have any questions or want to join the team of blog contributors.
