Misfits In Action: The Blog is here!

Well, I’m doing something I thought I’d never do: starting a blog.

After realizing the mailing list wasn’t doing too well (people hate subscribing to things) and the forum is good for playtesting but not for customer communication, thanks to spambots and the like forcing me to up security for account creating, I figured this would be one of the better ways to discuss what’s going on with Misfit Studios and myself in the wide, wild, wacky world of role-playing games. I’ll try to post things here on a regular basis, starting with the following:

Misfit Studios‘ first few steps into the Savage Worlds with our new line of mini-PDFs has been doing very well. High productivity turn over + low page count + low cost = great, low-risk introductory product for customers looking to try Misfit Studios‘ stuff for the first time. So far the products have been going over very well with fans and have surprised a few people who told me small PDFs for Savage Worlds simply wouldn’t work.

In other news, as great as OneBookShelf is for selling PDFs, sometimes they jump the gun on things without first asking publishers what they think when those things will greatly impact sales performance.  The latest issue was allowing ratings-only reviews (meaning you just enter a number from 1 to 5 and don’t need to leave feedback.) While this has resulted in a massive influx of such reviews, OBS didn’t first think about how this rush would skew data or where the information would fall rather than just how.

As someone who spent over a decade working in market research dealing with this sort of quantitative data, I’m not too happy about how the system works, especially since it hides these reviews from publishers, which means all manner of abuse that existed in the review system beforehand and was caught and reported to OBS by the publishers will now skate right on by.

Anyway, enough for my first post. I need to get this over-sized nose of mine back to the grind stone.

Steven Trustrum has been writing in the RPG industry since the end of the '90s and publishing via Misfit Studios since 2003. Aside from writing and publishing role-playing game content, he ... dabbles ... in content and social media marketing.

  1. The link to Savage World leads to a really messed up website, in which everything seems to be crammed onto a single screen with everything overlapping.
    Cheers

Which link are you referring to? There’s one that leads to Misfit Studios’ SW products page and another that leads to peginc.com ? Both appear fine when I followed them.
