Our Metahuman Mystics & Supernatural Supers archetypes series for Mutants & Masterminds Superlink opens up new worlds and methods to build adaptable characters of a paranormal nature. Each product contains four base archetypes, along with an example character for each that has been built using the provided content. Also provided are some new rules and a number of variations of each archetype.

Metahuman Mystics & Supernatural Supers brings you new ways to look at magic and the paranormal in your 2e Superlink game.

Within you will find four new PL-10 supernatural character archetypes focused on the various facets of mysticism and/or the supernatural. But these aren’t the simple archetypes you’ve come to expect because each provides information on the concept behind the archetype, hints on defining such characters’ origins, tips on building powers and how to improve the character with experience while staying true to the concept, as well as several variations on the basic archetype to allow tinkering. Also included are some new game mechanics for all-purpose use and a character of higher PL to illustrate what how the archetype can improve with experience.

The included supernatural archetypes are:

  • The Avatar is a mortal shell bestowed with the paranormal might of a Patron Force, such as Time, Life, Death or Magic. This archetype includes several customizable features that allows room for abilities suited for your Patron Force; several such abilities are provided as examples. Includes three variations (avatar of balance, polytheism, and lost identity) and the character Panacea, avatar of Life Force.
  • The Houngan, a Vodoun (Voodoo) priest. Aside from stats for the Met Tet, a Houngan’s companion spirit (think of a Voodoo version of a guardian angel), there are also rudimentary stats for Loas (Voodoo spirits), and a number of example voodoo spells, rituals, and charms. Includes four variations (gris-gris man, left-handed sorcerer, urban houngan, and zombie lord) and the character Papa Crane.
  • The Hybrid Vampire, the result of mortal blood mingling with that of the bloodsucking undead. Includes three variations (bloodline, changing the mix, and drinker) and the character Crimson Day.
  • The Necromancer, master of the undead. Includes some examples of necromantic spells and the character Lord Bones.

Also included are the Requires (Skill) Check flaw and Timed drawback for customizing your basic supernatural archetype.

Includes seven variations (alternate purpose, amnesiac, bound by evil, born to the cause, mortal punishment, prisoner, and voluntary repenting) and the character Hangman, a corrupt hanging judge sentenced to a living prison to punish the guilty as a chance to be free of Hell.
  • The Crusader, a person of little magic ability who still decides to fight the supernatural through guile, guts and luck. Includes four variations (holy warrior, profiteer, reluctant hero, and secret society) and the character Eva Cross.
  • The Magician, someone who uses their skills with stage illusion and parlor tricks to fight crime. Includes three variations (gimmickist, machinator, and master of illusion) and the character Presto.
  • The Primal Theurgist, a champion and holy man of a people and culture beset upon from all sides by modern civilization. Includes five variations (avenger, child of today, primal avatar, totem avatar, and untested neophyte), and the character Tomahawk.

Also included are a new skill, Knowledge (stage magic), two new powers, Enhanced (Skill) and Substitute (Save), and one updated and revised power, Confession Burn, the Lethal Only and Nonlethal Only flaws, Amnesia and One Of Us complications, and Cursed, Separate Personality, Slow Learner and (revised and updated) Technology Repellant drawbacks for customizing your basic supernatural archetype.

  • The Earthbound Deity, a god who walks the world of mortal man while lacking most of their true power. Includes six variations (demigod, exile, forgotten deity, star god I and II, and the unclaimed) and the character Montu.
  • The Freak Maker, someone whose scientific skill and unconventional ethics has allowed them to artificially create life. Includes five variations (horde master, machine maker, mortal who would be god, mystic maker, and puppet master) and the character Dr. Freak, along with stats for his creations.
  • The Lycanthrope, a regular person cursed to become a monster under the full moon. Includes four variations (alternate beast, curse of a different flavor, natural lycanthrope, and totem), and the character Moonclaw.

Also included are two new powers, Immortality and Super-Sense, Psychometry, three extras, Concussive and updates to Impervious and Penetrating, the Anti-Social complication, and Lose Control and Reduced Range drawbacks for customizing your basic supernatural archetype.
