The Tragic Passing of Daniel R. Davis

Steven Trustrum Commentary

Daniel R Davis

1971 – 2014

It is with regret that we say goodbye to Daniel R. Davis, who has succumbed to cancer.

I didn’t know him extremely well, and we’d never met, but I know him best for his work on ARRGH! Thar Be Zombies!, the pirate zombie addition to Eden Studios’ All Flesh Must Be Eaten line of products, and from occasionally chatting with him via social media. He’d also told me once or twice he was a fan of my writing, which is the highest compliment one writer can pay to another.

It is obvious he had plenty of friends in the gaming industry, many of whom are already expressing their sadness at his passing. It is also obvious that Daniel had plenty of ideas he will now never have the opportunity to pen. Imagine all that lost potential that could have been shared for the world’s enjoyment.

All the stories that will now never be read while curled up with loved ones before bed.

All the potential laughs lost and unfortunate die rolls that should have been made while using his works at the gaming table.

My condolences go out to his wife and daughter, for whom he had hopes of surpassing both he and his wife in smarts and success. I cannot imagine how either feels at the moment, but it is always tragic when a young child loses a parent, and I wish them both nothing but the best during this unbearable time.

On his homepage, he states the following while describing himself:

Keep an eye out for my name. I’m sure it’s going to crop up somewhere eventually.”

As a writer, husband and father, his name will keep cropping up for years to come, I’m certain.
